Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what personal data GameFactsGuide collects, why we collect it, and what rights you have. We aim to be clear and to collect only what we need.

Who we are

GameFactsGuide is operated by Jason van Vliet, a sole proprietorship based in the Netherlands (Chamber of Commerce number: 75003651). For any privacy questions, contact us at contact@gamefactsguide.com. We are the data controller for the personal data described here.

What we collect

We only collect data when you actively use certain features:

  • Account data. When you create an account, we store your email address, a username, and any profile details you choose to add (bio, avatar, country, languages, platforms).
  • Steam data. If you link your Steam account, we store your Steam ID, your Steam display name, and your public game library, so we can show your games on your profile.
  • Messages and reports. Direct messages between members are stored so they can be delivered. If a message is reported, we store a snapshot of the reported message and a few messages around it, to review the report.
  • Newsletter. If you subscribe, we store your email address to send you the newsletter. You can unsubscribe at any time.
  • Analytics and advertising. With your consent, we use cookies for analytics (to understand how the site is used) and advertising. See the Cookies section below.

Why we use your data

  • To provide your account, profile and the community features you choose to use.
  • To show your linked Steam games on your profile.
  • To deliver messages and to keep the community safe by handling reports and moderation.
  • To send the newsletter if you subscribed.
  • With your consent, to measure how the site is used and to show ads that help keep the site free.

Legal basis

We process account, profile, Steam, messaging and moderation data to perform the service you signed up for. We process newsletter and analytics/advertising data based on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.

Cookies

Essential cookies keep the site working, for example to keep you signed in. These are always on. Analytics and advertising cookies are only set after you accept them in our cookie banner. You can change your choice at any time. We use Google Analytics for statistics and, where enabled, Google AdSense for advertising; these providers may set their own cookies once you consent.

Who we share data with

We do not sell your personal data. We use trusted providers to run the site:

  • Supabase for accounts, profiles and data storage.
  • Resend for sending emails such as notifications and the newsletter.
  • Steam (Valve) when you choose to link your account, to fetch your public library.
  • Google for analytics and advertising, only after your consent.

How long we keep data

We keep your account data for as long as your account exists. If you delete your account, we remove your personal data, except where we must keep something to meet a legal obligation. Reported-message snapshots are kept only as long as needed to handle moderation.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correct data that is wrong or incomplete.
  • Delete your data ("right to be forgotten").
  • Object to or restrict certain processing.
  • Withdraw consent for the newsletter, analytics or advertising at any time.
  • Lodge a complaint with the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens).

To exercise any of these rights, email us at contact@gamefactsguide.com.

Age

You can browse GameFactsGuide at any age, but you must be 18 or older to create an account and take part in the community. We do not knowingly collect account data from anyone under 18.

We may update this policy from time to time. When we make significant changes, we will update the date at the top of this page.
