Dead by Daylight - Survivor guide: Shane Wiigwaas

An Anishinaabe defense attorney pulled into The Fog while searching for proof of his cousin's innocence, Shane Wiigwaas is the first Indigenous Survivor in Dead by Daylight.

Shane Wiigwaas follows his own road, hoping to atone for the past mistakes that cost his cousin Derek a life behind bars. His perks reward boldness in the chase, tactical healing, and reading the Killer's movement - making him a survivor built around information and resilience.

Background & Lore

Raised in the Glass River First Nation, Shane built his career as a defense attorney fighting for First Nations clients in a system stacked against them. When his cousin Derek was convicted of murder on circumstantial evidence - with the real culprit being a strange black fog - Shane was consumed by guilt for not fighting harder. He left home, drifted across Turtle Island doing odd jobs and legal aid work, until a Dakota woman's account of another person taken by black fog sent him hiking Blood Mountain in Georgia. There, Shane walked into an unnatural clearing and found The Entity's Fog waiting for him.

Unique Perks

Shane's three perks each serve a distinct role. Wide Open Throttle rewards fast-vaulting a dropped Pallet: you gain 10/12.5/15% Haste for 3 seconds, the Pallet is immediately reset and blocked by the Entity for 60 seconds, and all Survivors can see its Aura during that time - but the perk then goes on a 60-second cooldown. Lend a Hand activates after you cleanse or bless a Totem: once per Survivor, while healing them, you can press Activate Ability 2 to grant them 2/3/4 permanent healing charges. Cross-Examination tracks the Killer while you are inside the Terror Radius: the Killer leaves Light Marks visible to you for 10 seconds, and standing on a Light Mark grants the Elusive Status Effect, which lingers for 3/4/5 seconds after you leave it.

Watch out
Wide Open Throttle timing
Wide Open Throttle requires a fast-vault - you must vault the Pallet after dropping it, not just drop it. The 60-second perk cooldown and 60-second block window mean you cannot chain the effect back-to-back, so pick your moments carefully.

Playstyle & Role

Shane is built for survivors who are comfortable playing close to the Killer. Cross-Examination rewards staying in or near the Terror Radius to gather information about the Killer's position and share it implicitly with teammates through Light Marks. Wide Open Throttle makes Shane a strong chase survivor - throwing Pallets early and fast-vaulting them extends chases, resets a resource, and briefly boosts your escape speed. Lend a Hand adds a support layer, giving Shane a reason to interact with Totems and rewarding that effort with a meaningful heal buff that can help injured teammates stay in the Trial longer.

Unlocking & Prestiging

Shane can be purchased for 9,000 Iridescent Shards or 500 Auric Cells. Prestiging Shane once automatically adds Tier I of his three unique perks to every other Survivor's inventory and unlocks higher-tiered versions to appear in their Bloodweb. Prestige him a second and third time to push Tier II and Tier III respectively into all other Survivors' inventories. He is part of The Life Road Half-Chapter DLC, released on 25 June 2026.

Tip
Prestige priority
If you want Wide Open Throttle or Cross-Examination on other Survivors quickly, prioritise Prestiging Shane early - all three perks spread to the full roster with each Prestige level.

Tips

Fast-vault Pallets rather than holding them - Wide Open Throttle resets the Pallet and gives you a speed burst, so using Pallets aggressively is a net positive in chase.
Use Cross-Examination proactively: walking through Light Marks grants Elusive, hiding your Scratch Marks and Aura from the Killer for a few seconds - great for breaking line of sight.
Note Totem locations early in the Trial so you can cleanse or bless one quickly and have Lend a Hand ready when a teammate needs emergency healing charges.
The blocked Pallet Aura from Wide Open Throttle is visible to all Survivors - teammates can use it to infer where the chase is happening and route accordingly.
Track the 60-second cooldown on Wide Open Throttle mentally - do not commit to a Pallet fast-vault in a critical moment if the perk is still recharging.
