R.E.P.O. (Retrieve, Extract, and Profit Operation) is a co-op horror-survival game for 1 to 6 players. You and your team enter eerie, monster-filled buildings as Semi-bots working for the Taxman. Your job: collect valuables, haul them to extraction points, meet your money quota, and make it back to the truck alive. The game is physics-heavy, items break and lose value when dropped or bumped, so how you handle loot matters as much as where you find it.
Maps are randomly selected, and what is the quota?
The Taxman randomly picks one of 4 maps each run: Swiftbroom Academy, Headman Manor, McJannek Station, or Museum of Human Art. The quota is the minimum dollar value of loot you must extract to complete the run. Hit it and you get paid, miss it and there are consequences.
The core loop
Every run follows the same structure. Understanding this before your first match makes everything click.
1
Buy gear in the shop
Spend your starting money on tools. A flashlight is essential. Stock up on health and useful equipment before each run.
2
Enter the level and find valuables
Explore the building, find items, and load them onto the C.A.R.T. Pay attention to item fragility, dropping loot reduces its value.
3
Bring loot to an extraction point
Push the cart to the extraction point and place items inside the boundary. Make sure nothing is sticking out, items hanging outside the boundary can break during extraction.
4
Find and clear all extraction points
After the first extraction a new objective appears. You must clear all extraction points before leaving. The last one triggers an aggressive monster response.
5
Get back to the truck
After all extractions are done, make it back to the truck. The mini-map shows the route. Monsters become more aggressive during this final stretch.
Movement and noise
Monsters in R.E.P.O. respond to sound, movement, and item drops. Walking is quiet. Sprinting, jumping, and dropping items all make noise that attracts monsters. Your stamina only drains while sprinting and regenerates automatically when you stop. It regenerates faster when you are crouching or tumbled.
Watch out
Sprinting costs you twice
Sprinting drains stamina and creates noise. Do not sprint unless you are actually escaping. Walk by default, sprint when your life depends on it.
Crouching and hiding
Crouching significantly reduces how easily monsters detect you. When crouching, monsters need to see you for 2.5 seconds before fully detecting you, compared to 1 second when standing. Crawling reduces detection even further. Use hiding spots like under tables and behind furniture, but be aware that some monsters can check under tables if they suspect you are there.
Pressing [Q] makes you tumble. This deals 15 damage to monsters (at the cost of 5 health to you) and stuns small monsters. It also makes you smaller so you can fit through tight spaces. While tumbled you can still hold items, this is called a tumble grab.
Using the map
Press TAB to open the map. It shows explored and unexplored rooms, your teammates' positions, loot, and extraction points. Use it constantly. Before pushing into unexplored areas, check the map and mentally mark your escape path. Extraction points are always found on the outer edges of the map, never in the center.
Item value drops every time you damage it, dropping it, throwing it, or banging it against a wall all reduce its worth. Handle items carefully. Use the C.A.R.T. to move multiple items at once. When placing items at an extraction point, make sure everything is inside the boundary before activating it. Items sticking out will break and lose value.
Items partially outside the extraction point boundary will break during extraction. Always double-check that everything is fully inside before the extraction activates.
The revive system
When a player is destroyed, they still have a spare battery inside their head. Their battery slowly recharges at 1% per second. At 25% charge they can open their eyes, and at enough charge they can jump by holding Space to move towards teammates or an extraction point. Talking and jumping as a broken Semi-bot makes noise, useful for distracting monsters for your team. You can also carry a broken teammate's head back to the truck or an extraction point to revive them.
Behind each Semi-bot is a green health meter. You can grab it to transfer 10 health to a teammate at a time. Keep an eye on your team's health, especially before entering new areas.
Common beginner mistakes
Ignoring the quota
The quota is the minimum dollar value you must extract to complete the level. It is shown at each extraction point and in the top-right corner. If you fail to meet it after everyone dies, it counts as a failure with consequences.
Sprinting everywhere
Sprinting creates noise that attracts monsters and drains stamina before you need it. Walk by default. Save sprinting for actual escapes.
Dropping items carelessly
Every drop reduces item value. This costs you money on your quota. Carry items properly and use the C.A.R.T. for bulk transport.
Items outside the extraction boundary
During extraction, any item not fully inside the boundary will break. Always check the edges before the extraction activates.
Not checking the map
The TAB map shows everything, unexplored rooms, teammates, loot, extraction points. Players who ignore it get lost and make noise wandering in circles.
Standing in an active extraction point
When an extraction point activates, leave the area immediately. Standing inside when it goes off will kill you.
Quick tips
Extraction points are always on the outer edges of the map, never in the center. Follow the perimeter to find them faster. There are 4 normal locations, Swiftbroom Academy, Headman Manor, McJannek Station, and Museum of Human Art.
Noisy items like radios, clocks, and dolls subtract 5 seconds from monster respawn timers per second they make noise. Handle them carefully or leave them.
When a monster dies it eventually respawns as the same monster. Plan your routes accordingly.
You can mute your microphone in-game with [B]. Use it when sneaking near monsters, your voice is audible in the game world.
Dropping a heavy item intentionally can distract a pursuing monster, giving your team time to escape.
The C.A.R.T. can store items near inactive extraction points for later. Use it to save space and reduce trips.
Check the truck's storage before buying, you may have leftover gear from previous runs that is still usable.
