Perks and the Bloodweb are Dead by Daylight's core progression systems, letting you unlock powerful abilities and upgrades for every Survivor and Killer you play.
Perks are passive abilities that modify how your character plays in a match. Each Survivor and Killer can equip up to four perks at a time, chosen before the match begins. Perks range from utility boosts like faster healing or generator repair speeds, to powerful effects like revealing the Killer's aura or getting a speed burst after unhooking a teammate.
The Bloodweb is a web-shaped progression map that appears for every character individually. You spend Bloodpoints, the in-game currency earned at the end of each match, to claim nodes on the web, which contain perks, add-ons, items, and offerings. Each time you claim enough nodes, the web resets at a higher level, introducing rarer and more powerful rewards.
Most perks come in three tiers (I, II, and III), with each tier offering a stronger version of the same effect. You upgrade a perk's tier by finding higher-level versions of it deeper in the Bloodweb as your character levels up. Once a character reaches level 50, you can Prestige them, resetting their level but permanently unlocking their perks at all tiers for every character on your account.
As a new Survivor, perks like Dead Hard (gives a brief invincibility dash), Borrowed Time (protects a rescued teammate from being immediately re-hooked), and Self-Care (lets you heal yourself without a Med-Kit) are widely considered beginner-friendly and effective. For new Killers, Barbecue & Chili (shows auras of distant Survivors after a hook) and Pop Goes the Weasel (regresses a generator after a hook) are strong fundamentals that also teach good habits.
