SCS Software has shared a detailed look at Akureyri, the fourth-largest city in Iceland and one of the destinations coming in the upcoming Iceland DLC for Euro Truck Simulator 2.
What's new
SCS Software has pulled back the curtain on Akureyri, one of the key cities players will explore in the upcoming Iceland DLC for Euro Truck Simulator 2. Known as the Capital of the North, Akureyri sits along the shores of Eyjafjörður, Iceland's longest fjord, and is framed by snow-capped peaks with the Glerá River running through the city centre.
Akureyri has deep roots as a commercial hub, with its harbour playing a central role since the 18th century. Today it serves as Iceland's second-largest port, and that industrial character is fully represented in the DLC. Truckers will be able to haul cargo to a marine logistics centre, a shipyard, and an electronics manufacturing depot, all located in the port district.
Route 1, Iceland's famous Ring Road, passes directly through Akureyri's centre, with branch roads leading off toward the harbour, industrial zones, and food-processing facilities. It's a natural throughway for long-haul routes across the island.
The development team has recreated several of Akureyri's most recognisable sights. The Akureyrarkirkja church, designed in 1940 by architect Guðjón Samúelsson (who also designed Hallgrímskirkja in Reykjavík), stands as one of the town's most striking features. Players will also spot the Hof Cultural and Conference Centre on the waterfront, the Akureyri Art Museum with its distinctive colourful pavement, and a local whale watching centre that reflects the town's tourism identity.
Beyond deliveries, players will have the option to purchase a garage in Akureyri and establish it as a northern Iceland branch of their trucking company, a nice touch for those looking to build out their operations across the new map.
The Iceland DLC does not yet have a release date, but you can add it to your Steam wishlist to stay informed.
