SCS Software has given players an early behind-the-scenes look at the Multi-Function Display, a new in-game interface designed to unify vehicle controls and settings without interrupting your drive.
What's new
SCS Software has pulled back the curtain on a feature currently in development for Euro Truck Simulator 2 (and its sibling title American Truck Simulator): the Multi-Function Display, or MFD. This early preview gives the community a glimpse at a system that has been in prototyping for some time, with the studio keen to gather thoughts ahead of a future release.
The MFD is an in-game interface designed to bring vehicle controls, settings, and information together in a single, accessible hub. Accessible from both interior and exterior camera views, it organises a wide range of functions into navigable categories, including driving assists, lighting controls, vehicle adjustments, media playback, and trip data.
Crucially, opening the MFD is designed to not pause gameplay in most situations, keeping your truck responsive while you browse menus. The studio says a significant portion of prototyping time has been spent ensuring the interface feels fast, readable, and non-distracting, drawing visual inspiration from real-world modern vehicle dashboards.
One of the driving forces behind the MFD is making the games' many features easier to find. Over the years, ETS2 and ATS have accumulated a large number of functions and key-binds that many players never encounter. The MFD aims to surface these systems more naturally by grouping related controls together and displaying their corresponding key-binds directly within the interface.
Existing key-bind workflows are not going away, players who rely on muscle memory will be unaffected. The MFD is intended as an additional layer, not a replacement. The team is also designing the system to work across all input methods, including keyboard, mouse, steering wheel, and controller, with customisable navigation controls planned.
The MFD announcement comes alongside updates to other interface elements. Since the Route Advisor's rework, SCS has added a Damage Widget (showing truck, trailer, and cargo condition), a Finances Widget for tracking earnings, and, arriving with update 1.60, a Job Info Widget with current delivery details. Each widget can be individually hidden.
The studio is also reworking the Quick Info menu to reduce screen obstruction while retaining quick access to controls layout, widget settings, Photo Mode, and Services and Adjustments. The Services and Adjustments functions are also being folded into the MFD itself, giving players two ways to reach them.
SCS is clear that the MFD remains in active prototyping. Core direction and functionality are established, but details are subject to change as internal testing continues and community feedback is incorporated. The studio also hints at potential expansion beyond trucks to other vehicle types in the future.
This early reveal is deliberate, SCS wants player input to help shape the feature before it reaches a wider testing phase.
