The Heart Hugger lures semibots in with a friendly disguise before chomping them to pieces. It's one of the more devious threats in R.E.P.O.

The Heart Hugger is a Level 2 monster in R.E.P.O. that disguises itself as something friendly to lure players in, then reveals its true form and starts chomping. It pretends to be harmless right up until the moment it isn't.
It resembles a Venus flytrap with cilia arranged in a heart shape, with two unsettling smiley faces on the inside and a stubby arm on each side. Players caught in its hallucination see something completely different: an innocent floating heart with cheery faces and flailing arms, happily saying hi as it drags them closer.
The Heart Hugger moves around the map by burrowing underground and resurfacing elsewhere, effectively teleporting between positions. When it spots a player, it sprays a pink mist in their direction. If a player touches the mist, they become tranced: pink Tumble Wings appear on them and they begin flying involuntarily toward the Heart Hugger, unable to look away or move under their own control. While this is happening, the Heart Hugger shows the hallucinating player a friendly disguise to keep them coming.
Once the player gets close enough, the Heart Hugger drops the disguise, reveals its true form with a scare, and begins chomping at 30 damage per hit for several seconds. It continues pulling the player during the attack. After the chomping ends, it releases the player, who takes an additional 10 physics damage if they hit a surface, and then the Heart Hugger burrows away to repeat the cycle somewhere else. It will also attack crouching players, so crouching offers no protection.
The Heart Hugger's pink mist takes a moment to release before the hallucination begins, which means if you spot it early enough you can simply run away and hide before the effect kicks in. This brief window can also be used strategically in co-op: teammates who aren't affected can use that time to reposition, set up a stun, or get behind cover before the situation escalates.
The Heart Hugger has 300 HP, which is substantial, but its behavior cycle has clear interrupt points. Hitting it with a weapon while it is pulling a player will break the trance and free them. Stunning it while it is mid-pull also interrupts the attack immediately. Its teleporting movement pattern means it can be unpredictable to track, but once it surfaces and starts spraying mist, there is a short window before the hallucination locks in where you can act. It can also be stopped if the affected player puts enough distance between themselves and the Heart Hugger.
The Heart Hugger has 300 HP and no particularly complex kill mechanic, but its teleporting movement makes consistent damage a challenge. The most reliable window to deal damage is right after it resurfaces and before or during its mist spray, when it is stationary and exposed. Attack it with a weapon during this window to interrupt any active pulls and deal damage simultaneously. Stunning it is especially useful because the Strength Breakpoint when stunned drops to 0, meaning any player can pick it up at that point regardless of their strength level. If you stun it, pick it up immediately and finish it off or reposition before it recovers. Melee weapons work fine given its stationary attack phase, but ranged options give you more safety margin since getting too close risks triggering the mist. Coordinate with teammates in co-op so one player handles the distraction or pull interrupt while another focuses on damage.
