R.E.P.O. | Monster guide: Oogly

BehaviorHidden usefulnessWeaknessesStrategyHow to kill

The Oogly drifts through the sky scanning for players with a green spotlight, and if it catches you in its beam, you're in for a rough ride.

R.E.P.O. | Monster guide: Oogly

The Oogly is a Level 2 flying monster in R.E.P.O. that acts as an airborne eye, drifting high near the ceiling and sweeping the room below with a bright green spotlight. It mostly ignores everything around it until that beam touches a player, at which point it becomes one of the more disorienting threats in the game.

Behavior

The Oogly roams aimlessly through the air in a single room and will teleport to another room after some time. It projects a constant, highly visible green spotlight downward. The moment a player steps into that beam, the Oogly screams and dives toward them, grabbing them and carrying them through the air in rapid, erratic patterns while dealing 4 damage per tick for several seconds. When the attack finishes or the target dies, the Oogly drops them, potentially causing fall damage if the grab happened high enough, and then teleports away to resume roaming. It can detect players by line of sight, proximity, and direct touch, and it will even attack players who are crouching.

Hidden usefulness

Because the Oogly stays locked to its room unless it teleports, you can use its presence to funnel teammates away from certain paths and force more careful route planning, effectively making it a passive barrier for coordinated teams. Its tendency to teleport away after an attack also means it can naturally clear itself out of a room after engaging.

Weaknesses

The Oogly has 200 HP, which is manageable, but its real vulnerability is height. Because it hovers near the ceiling, any stun will send it plummeting to the floor, and fall damage chips away at its health before you even start attacking. Its Strength Breakpoint drops to 0 when stunned, meaning any player can pick it up in that state. It also takes a notable 25 extra damage from the Baseball Bat and Sledge Hammer compared to other enemies, making those weapons especially effective against it.

Strategy

  • Stay out of the green spotlight. Hide under objects or furniture to block the beam, and use alternate routes to bypass its room entirely.
  • If you are grabbed, try to stun it yourself if you meet the strength requirement, but expect your aim to be poor while being thrown around.
  • Teammates with good aim can stun the Oogly mid-grab using weapons that deal little or no friendly fire damage to avoid hitting the grabbed player.
  • Avoid using grenades unless the Oogly is low to the ground, as it often flies too high for them to connect reliably.
  • If it spots you and starts charging, a fast, well-aimed ranged shot can stun it before it grabs you. Be ready to chain stuns together, because it re-aggros on the same target each time it recovers.

How to kill

The most effective approach in R.E.P.O. is to trigger a stun first. Any stun weapon will knock the Oogly out of the sky, sending it crashing to the floor and dealing fall damage on top of your hits. Once grounded, switch to a Baseball Bat or Sledge Hammer, both deal 25 extra damage to the Oogly compared to other weapons, letting you tear through its 200 HP far faster than with standard gear. If a teammate is being grabbed, have a second player stun the Oogly from range using a weapon with low or no friendly fire damage, this drops both the Oogly and the grabbed player to the floor and opens a clean window to finish it off. Chain stuns if needed since it will re-aggro after each recovery, but keep pressure on it and it will go down quickly.
