R.E.P.O. | Monster guide: Hidden

The Hidden lives up to its name by being completely invisible, though it still gives itself away with faint wheezing sounds, wisps of smoke, and footprints on the ground. It deals zero damage on its own, but that doesn't make it safe. In R.E.P.O., it's one of the more unsettling monsters to encounter because its danger is entirely situational.

Behavior

When the Hidden spots a player, it chases them down, grabs them, and carries them at speed toward a predetermined spot somewhere on the map. Once it reaches that spot, it drops the player and sprints off toward another distant location. If it fails to grab its target after a few seconds of chasing, it gives up and runs away instead. It can detect players through line of sight, proximity, and touch, and it will even grab crouching players, so staying low offers no protection. If you step into the path of a Hidden that's already running, it may stop and snatch you up and keep going with you in tow.

Hidden usefulness

The Hidden can occasionally work in your favor. During the final extraction phase, if you're far from the truck, it can carry you back toward it and save you a long run. It also moves faster than most other monsters, so if something dangerous is chasing you, the Hidden can act as a last resort escape vehicle by carrying you away quickly. While being carried, you can still use weapons, so a stunning tool like the boltzap or tranq gun lets you neutralize any other monster the Hidden runs you toward. You can even fire the pulse pistol at the ground while being carried to stun the Hidden and get dropped, though this also sends you and the weapon flying in different directions, so only do it in a room with no pits.

Weaknesses

The Hidden has only 100 HP and goes down quickly once located. Hitting it with any valuable item stuns it, making it easy to finish off if you have a rough idea of where it is. When stunned, it can be picked up by a single player with no strength requirement beyond 1. Despite being invisible, it still activates your cursor when you aim at it, which lets you grab it if you catch it off guard. The teammate being carried can also be grabbed by another player to pull them free, which causes the Hidden to immediately start running away.

Strategy

• Listen for the wheezing and watch for smoke wisps or footprints to track its position before it grabs anyone.
• If a teammate gets grabbed, try to grab them back before the Hidden reaches its drop point, the Hidden will flee once you take its cargo.
• Keep a stunning tool handy if you're in an area with pits or dangerous monsters nearby.
• Avoid blocking a running Hidden's path unless you're ready to deal with being carried.
• If you're grabbed and heading somewhere dangerous, use your stun weapon on whatever monster the Hidden is running you toward rather than on the Hidden itself.

How to kill

The Hidden has only 100 HP and no way to fight back, so killing it is straightforward once you know where it is. Hit it once with any valuable item to stun it, then follow up with melee or a weapon to finish it off quickly. In stun state it only takes a strength of 1 to pick up, so you can also grab and throw it. If you're trying to find it first, aim your cursor around the area where you heard wheezing or saw smoke until your cursor activates on its invisible body, then hit it with a valuable to stun it and commit to the kill from there. A few solid hits at 100 HP is all it takes.
